“ You feel good when you get out. You’re physically fit, your mind is sharp, you have a sense of purpose. That’s what made me the happiest when I was in. There was a goal to accomplish and every day I woke up and knocked it out. I completed what needed to be done. And when you get out, you get out with that
same mentality. Yeah, you’re great for a little bit but then you realize you start stagnating. You start getting demoralized, and after a while you just stop trying. You’re just exhausted.
There’s nowhere… you don’t improve.”
Transition can be difficult depending on the amount of support available. 1350 veterans in LA county were interviewed in 2013 about their transition from military to civilian life. Housing, workplace, stress, healthcare, family, etc, were all reported as challenges to be overcome, sometimes with a difficulty that is too hard to bear. Please give our service men and women your well wishes as they work through their dreams of re-establishing community life in their new shell after service.
